NEWBERRY – Once again, the Spartan Race will be coming to Newberry. The bulk of the set-up and events will take place on the Johnson Family Farm; however, there will be some race routes and obstacles that will bring racers through the Greenslade property as well as Lynch’s Woods Park (LWP).

“The Spartan event draws thousands of racers and visitors to Newberry County each year. It is exciting to have an event of this nature select our community as a destination for a fourth year,” said Jessie Long with Newberry County Parks and Recreation.

Beginning November 10, 2025, the Spartan Race staff will begin setting up obstacles throughout Lynch’s Woods Park. The Spartan Race event takes place November 15 and 16, 2025, and post event cleanup will begin immediately following the event and should end by November 18, 2025, in Lynch’s Woods Park (weather dependent).

Gate closures and changes to visitor access for Lynch’s Woods Park during the 2025 Spartan event, are outlined here:

  • November 10-13, 2025 – inner gates on gravel road closed (vehicular access to picnic shelter area will remain open as well as access to ALL trails).
  • November 14-18, 2025 – main gate and inner gates closed (only hiking and biking trails are open, park is closed to vehicular and equestrian traffic; parking is available behind the Sheriff’s Office).

During these dates, Newberry County Parks and Recreation request that park visitors avoid areas where Spartan obstacles are being constructed or have been constructed.

“Lynch’s Woods Park has undergone an immense amount of work over the past year, and we are excited to have the park open to our local community and to now be able to share it with folks from outside of the community as well,” said Long.
