The Newberry County Building Department works to promote the health, safety, and welfare of our citizens by ensuring that construction throughout the unincorporated areas of Newberry County meets applicable building and safety standards.
Our department assists homeowners, contractors, business owners, and developers throughout the permitting and inspection process. Whether you are building a new home, adding to an existing structure, opening or renovating a business, installing an accessory structure, or beginning another construction project, our staff is here to help you understand the requirements and navigate the process.

Before You Build
Many construction projects require approval and permits before work begins. We encourage property owners and contractors to contact the Building Department during the planning stages of a project. Our staff can help identify applicable requirements and determine which permits, plans, inspections, and approvals may be needed.
Work Started Without a Required Permit
Please obtain all required permits before beginning work.
If work requiring a permit is started before the required permit has been obtained, and the work is discovered by Newberry County, the applicable permit fee will be doubled.
Beginning work without a permit may also result in a Stop Work Order and could cause delays while the required permits, approvals, and inspections are obtained.
