Newberry Health

Newberry Health’s roots stretch back to the founding of Newberry County Hospital in 1925, later renamed Newberry County Memorial Hospital. The hospital has grown into one of South Carolina’s most respected independent community hospitals. In 2025, recognizing that the mission had grown and would continue to grow beyond the hospitals walls, the Board of Trustees approved a new name – Newberry Health – to be the umbrella organization encompassing the hospital, outpatient clinics, specialty labs and services, and facilities throughout the county. While the 90-bed hospital remains the heart of the organization, Newberry Health is now a comprehensive health system, providing award-winning care and an outstanding patient experience, delivered in a culture of hospitality. 

As a rural health system, Newberry Health is large enough to offer state-of-the-art facilities, advanced equipment, and expert staff, yet small enough to provide the individualized care that truly makes a difference in patients' lives. As an independent system, Newberry Health also has the flexibility to collaborate with other hospitals and healthcare providers, giving the community access to the specialty services they need. 

Newberry Health earned a spot on the prestigious list of the Top 100 Rural Hospitals in the United States as the #1 Rural Hospital in South Carolina by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The list highlights the nation’s top rural and community hospitals for exceptional performance and commitment to high-quality care.
