The Honorable Walton J. McLeod, III has served tirelessly for the people of Newberry County for many years. One of the ways Rep. McLeod has served Newberry County has been through the Central Midlands Council of Government, for which he has served since 1976, representing the residents of Newberry County!
Thanks to his dedication to Newberry County, and working to improve the lives of its residents, he has been continuously reappointed to the Central Midlands Council of Government. During his almost 50 years of service, Rep. McLeod served as board chair, chaired the Rural Transportation Planning Advisory Committee, and served as a representative to the Central Midlands Development Corporation. He has also participated on Nemours standing and special committees.
Newberry County proudly recognized Rep. McLeod for his dedicated service on May 21. 2025, and would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to him for his dedicated service to Newberry County!

During the most recent Newberry County Council meeting, Tommy Long, Newberry County Emergency Services director, recognized Consolidated Station 5 Fire Department, Little Mountain Fire Station 6, and Little Mountain Rescue Station 18.
During his presentation, he highlighted their volunteers, performance, recognitions, and much more!
Newberry County Council thanked the volunteers for their hard work and acknowledged how lucky the county is to have the volunteer departments.
This was the first of a new tradition of Newberry County Council recognizing the volunteer services within Newberry County!
