Established in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this 276 acre park is full of large pines and old-growth hardwoods and contains miles of hiking, biking, and equestrians trails. Rocky Branch Creek flows through several sections of the park providing a tranquil experience for those who venture the trails.
LYNCH'S WOODS PARK UPDATES (10/28/25):
Lynch's Woods Park is OPEN Monday - Sunday Dawn to Dusk
NOTICE: On the first Tuesday of each month (plus one bonus date), vehicles will be permitted to drive through the park betw
een the hours of 9 AM to 3 PM. Vehicles must adhere to the 10-mph speed limit and use caution through the park. This access will be evaluated and may be revoked when/if necessary.
NOTICE: Once again, the Spartan Race will be coming to Newberry! While the bulk of set-up and events will take place on t
he Johnson Family Farm, there will be some race routes and obstacles that will bring racers through Lynch’s Woods Park (LWP). Beginning November 10, 2025, the inner gates for the gravel road that loops around the perimeter of the park will be closed (no vehicular traffic continues and all other traffic should use extreme caution). Additionally, the main gate will be closed beginning November 14, 2025, and all gates will remain closed through November 18, 2025. However, most trails will remain open to visitors during that week.
LWP GATE CLOSURES
- November 10-13, 2025 – inner gates on gravel road closed (vehicular access to picnic shelter area will remain open as well as access to ALL trails).
- November 14-18, 2025 – main gate and inner gates closed (only hiking and biking trails are open, park is closed to vehicular and equestrian traffic; parking is available behind the Sheriff’s Office).
During these dates, Newberry County Parks and Recreation request that park visitors avoid areas where Spartan obstacles are being constructed or have been constructed.
SPARTAN RACE INFORMATION
Races: November 15-16, 2025.
Nov. 15: Beast 21K with 30 obstacles, Ultra 50K with 60 obstacles, Sprint 5K with 20 obstacles.
Nov. 16: Sprint 5K with 20 obstacles & Super 10K with 25 obstacles.
Kids Races will take place on both days (ages 4-14) - ranging in distance from 1-3 kilometers; these courses will present smaller versions of obstacles.

Park Highlights
- 1 mile designated TRACK trail for kids and their families; TRACK your adventure on Kids in Parks website to receive a sticker.
- 7.5 miles of hiking and bicycling trails with twisting turns, short hills, and intricate creek crossings; bicycle trails are considered intermediate.
- 6.1 miles of equestrian trails that offer a peaceful experience surrounded by nature.
- 4 mile section of the Palmetto Trail – Lynch’s Woods Passage – “Gateway to the Upstate.”
- 4.25 mile gravel road that loops around the park. - CLOSED TO VEHICLES; OPEN TO HIKERS, BICYCLISTS, EQUESTRIANS
