Newberry County Council had the distinct honor to recognize two employees with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office for their years of service, last night.
First up was Brett Watkins who has been with the department for five years. Here is what County Administrator Jeff Shacker had to say about Brett:
“Brett joined the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office back in August of 2020 as a patrol deputy. A year later, he was promoted to school resource officer, which is the position he currently occupies.
“School resource officers are important to our county and play a critical role in keeping our public schools safe.
“Brett works in Gallman, Newberry and Reuben Elementary Schools and is actively involved in school activities. He has built a great rapport with the kids, which is one of the things that makes Brett so effective in the role. Trust is important in that job and Brett has been able to gain the trust of the students and teachers that he serves.”
Nancy Sanchez was next recognized for 20 years of service to the department!
“Nancy has been employed by the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office since she graduated from high school. Nancy currently serves as the county’s 911 addressing coordinator. However, she has held a number of positions since she began working at the for the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office back in 2005. Those positions include administrative assistant, telecommunicator, and 911 addressing assistant.
“Nancy is hardworking and loyal and is very much appreciated by Sheriff Lee Foster, the management team at the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, and her coworkers. She has assisted with many cases and makes valuable contributions in the front office.”
Thank you to our employees for their hard work and dedication!
